About Us

Born in the British countryside, Task Dog produces bespoke, calm and clear-minded Personal and Family Protection Dogs

Task Dog is rooted in the British countryside, and that foundation remains central to how we think work and train.

We use the varied terrain, changing weather, open ground, woodland, livestock, vehicles, public spaces and everyday distractions to shape our most important values into a dog: calmness, adaptability and composure.

Our curator's lifelong background alongside working dogs has shaped our clear understanding of the value of the dog-man partnership and the crucial role a well-developed dog can play.

Task Dog's countryside roots and the business's heritage define our business culture. We are discrete, practical and without unnecessary noise.

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy is not to develop dogs around intimidation, nor to treat protection as theatre.

The dogs we develop are intended to live properly with their owners, settling in any environment they are introduced to and acting as a natural deterrent through presence, steadiness, and capability.

For us, the ideal dog is a companion first, a deterrent by presence, and a capable protector only when needed.

That balance of companionship, deterrence, and genuine protective ability sits at the heart of the Task Dog philosophy.

Built on Operational Experience

All of the trainers at Task Dog have a genuine passion for working with dogs. We take pride in training dogs in a positive, professional manner, ensuring each one is developed to the highest standard.

Behind Task Dog is a team of handlers and trainers with backgrounds including former Army Veterinary Corps personnel attached to UK Special Forces.

Combined we have over 50 years of experience across dog training and operational environments.

We have supplied, trained, and developed dogs for African anti-poaching work, the police, military, security services, His Majesty’s Prison Service, and to families and homes requiring an additional layer of security.

Our experience defines the standard we work to: practical dogs, clear-headed training, and suitability for real life.

What Makes a Task Dog?

Task Dog is set apart by selecting and developing every dog with the real world in mind.

The key qualities we focus on are:

  • calmness under pressure

  • clear-headed decision making

  • environmental soundness

  • social neutrality

  • trainability and control

  • companionship

Whether the requirement is for personal security or family protection the principle remains the same: to develop and place dogs that are calm enough to live with, credible enough to rely on, and prepared for the realities of the world they will live in. Not every dog makes a Task Dog.
